Which Cosmetic Dentist?
If you are considering any kind of cosmetic procedure make sure you select a cosmetic dentist with the right skills to do the job.
The best way to find an experienced cosmetic dentist is via the American Dental Association website or by calling the association on (800) 543-9220 (toll free)
In order for a dentist to be registered with the American academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (which is the largest international dental association dedicated to the art of cosmetic dentistry) they have to have at least shown an interest in further training in the field of cosmetic dentistry. Someone who is a general member of the association will have taken the first step towards becoming a cosmetic dentist by attending the annual conference (four day session of continuous development courses) on at least two occasions within the last four years.
A Sustaining member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry will have had to attend the annual conference on at least two occasions in the last four years but will have also passed a written exam which is the next step towards becoming an accredited cosmetic dentist.
If you are thinking about having any form of cosmetic dental work done (and particularly any of the more complicated cosmetic procedures) then you probably want to select an accredited member or a fellow. An accredited member of the dental association will have undergone extensive advanced training in the field of cosmetic dentistry in order to become and accredited cosmetic dentist. Such a cosmetic dentist will have not only undergone rigorous training but will have also passed a further examination and demonstrated extensive knowledge, experience and ability in the field of cosmetic dentistry.
Even better is to find yourself a fellow of the association who will have had to demonstrate an exceptional standard of excellence as a cosmetic dentist. A cosmetic dentist who has earned the accreditation of a fellow will have been a member of the ADAA for at least three years and have had at least 300 hours of continuous development training.
Don’t leave the outcome of a cosmetic dentistry procedure to chance. A little bit of groundwork in finding the right cosmetic dentist for the job could save you an awful lot of heartache as a result of a failed cosmetic procedure.
